Vildagliptin is prescribed to treat Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that makes the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood too high. Vildagliptin has linagliptin in it, which acts by inhibiting the action of DPP-4, an enzyme responsible for degrading the hormone incretin (the enzyme that increases the secretion of insulin only when needed and decreases the blood sugar level in the liver when it is not required). Not everyone on Vildagliptin will develop these side effects. Precautions:

• Keep some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you feel the symptoms of hypoglycemia, as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxiety.
• Drive and operate machinery cautiously until you are aware of how Vildagliptin can affect you.
• Your doctor will monitor your kidney and liver function at the beginning of treatment and periodically thereafter. Tell your doctor if you experience symptoms like abdominal pain, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, or jaundice.
