Description

Teneligliptin Tablets I.P. 20 mg

Teneligliptin is a type of medicine known as “anti-diabetic” taken mainly for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, particularly in individuals whose blood sugar levels are too high and cannot be regulated through diet and exercise. It is taken independently or together with other medicines to reduce blood sugar levels. Individuals with type 2 diabetes do not make enough insulin, or their bodies cannot use the insulin they make (insulin resistance). Type 2 diabetes, also referred to as adult-onset diabetes, is most common in middle-aged and older adults.

Teneligliptin has Teneligliptin in it, which falls in the category of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors that are used Teneligliptin is used for treating the condition of type 2 diabetes when diet alone, along with exercise, is not able to manage their blood sugar levels. It acts by inhibiting the activity of DPP-4 (an enzyme that degrades the hormone ‘Incretin’). ‘Incretins’ enzyme facilitates the production of extra insulin only as and when needed, and lowers the liver’s blood sugar level when not needed.

Advantages:

  • Teneligliptin, a member of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors class of drugs employed to manage type 2 diabetes when diet control alone and exercise cannot regulate their blood glucose levels.
  • The enzyme ‘Incretins’ facilitates the generation of additional insulin only when necessary and lowers the liver’s blood glucose level when unnecessary.
  • Teneligliptin must be avoided in patients who have type 1 diabetes and in managing diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Teneligliptin has an important role in regulating blood sugar levels and stops severe diabetes complications such as loss of eyesight (retinopathy), kidney (nephropathy), nerve damage (neuropathy), diabetic foot ulcer, and wound healing delay.

Uses:

  • Teneligliptin is employed in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is employed in combination with diet and exercise to enhance blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • It acts by enhancing the release of insulin from the pancreas and lowering the hormones that increase the level of blood sugar. It lowers the fasting and postprandial blood sugars.
