Racecamentin Sachet
Racecadotril Sachet is a very potent antidiarrheal medicine that is particularly used in infants and children for the treatment of acute diarrhea, among others, but only when prescribed by a doctor. Racecadotril inhibits the intestines’ overactive fluid secretion but does not affect normal gut motility. It is different from other common antidiarrheal medicines in the sense that it allows the body’s digestive movement to continue, thus preventing constipation or bloating.
Racecadotril is categorized as an enkephalinase inhibitor, which indicates that it stops the degradation of the body’s natural peptides that are in charge of reducing the secretions in the intestines. The drug, therefore, lessens the loss of water and electrolytes in the stool by retaining the peptides. This renders the drug very useful in treating diarrhea due to infections, changes in diet, or disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract while at the same time helping the body to maintain its fluid level if given along with rehydration through oral fluids.
Composition:
Each sachet contains:
Therapeutic Class: Antidiarrheal / Gastrointestinal Agent
Racecadotril Sachet is mainly prescribed for the acute diarrhea treatment in both children and adults. The drug is effective in reducing the stool frequency and volume as well as in the restoration of bowel function in a shorter period. It is the preferred treatment when used with oral rehydration therapy to prevent dehydration resulting from stool water loss. It can be prescribed for infectious diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea, and gastrointestinal infections, provided you follow a doctor’s advice.
The use of Racecadotril Sachet should be very much in line with the doctor’s instruction. A small quantity of water, milk, or soft food should be added to the sachet contents and the mixture should be consumed immediately. The dosage and treatment time vary according to patient’s age, weight, and symptom severity. After the last stool, continue treatment as directed but do not exceed prescribed time without doctor’s consultation.
Racecadotril is contraindicated for patients who have a hypersensitivity reaction to the active substance. Meanwhile, the drug will not replace the oral rehydration therapy that is required to be continued in order to avoid getting dehydrated. In patients with renal and/or liver failure, caution is suggested. If diarrhea lasts more than a few days or there are other symptoms such as fever, blood in stools, or severe dehydration, medical attention should be sought right away.
Racecadotril is usually tolerated without problems. But there are cases when patients suffer from headaches, nausea, or even skin irritation which manifests as rashes, etc. These effects are mild drug side effects and may vary in different individuals. Anaphylactic reactions are quite rare to occur. However, if any strange symptoms or those that last a long time happen, it is better to stop using the medicine and to inform your doctor without delay.
