Description

PREA-SB injection is a combination of two drugs called cefoperazone and sulbactam anhydrous. This drug is used to treat bacterial infections in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, blood infection, meningitis, skin, abdominal, bone, joint infections, or sexually transmitted diseases.

Cefoperazone belongs to the class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of their cell walls. Cefoperazone is particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive bacteria.

Sulbactam anhydrous is a substance that helps antibiotics work better against certain bacteria. It does this by stopping enzymes called beta-lactamases from breaking down the antibiotics. When these enzymes are blocked, the antibiotic cefoperazone can fight the bacteria more effectively.

Cefoperazone and sulbactam anhydrous, when used together, create a synergistic effect. This means that their combined action is more powerful than when either drug is used alone. This combination is particularly helpful in treating infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to multiple drugs or in situations where resistance is likely to occur. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the specific infection being treated, the severity of the infection, and the patient’s individual factors such as age and overall health.
